I thought by 2022 we would be out of COVID being a concern. That was not the case. COVID continued to be rampant with new variations and continuation of updated vaccines (boosters). However by 2022, I didn’t care. I decided I needed to get out there with a structured training program and increase my socialization. I rejoined the Pauole Triathlon Club and the journey began.
Of course, I was very careful to not get COVID by wearing masks when shopping and eating outdoors instead of indoors. I was seeing many of my friends posting on Facebook that they had COVID and the derail of their training. One relative went to Europe and came back with COVID.
I trained 6 days a week. During the summer I road my my cycling partner, Laurie.
I had a golden ticket to RAMROD from signing up for the 2020 event to ride RAMROD in 2022, but I decided not to. My heart was not in to RAMROD anymore with lots of climbing to prepare, so I transferred my ticket to another person.
Instead, I did local smaller triathlon races (Wilderness and Black Diamond) and was happy to get a podium for each. I came in the top 3 in my age group for the Lake Sammamish Half Marathon Run which was awesome as well. I also trained for Half Ironman WA and received a cool plaque for 5th in Age Group! All of this racing was preparation for Ironman Arizona in November. Other valuable training was swimming (at 6am!) with the team in Lake Washington in all kinds of weather from calm water like glass to very choppy water on windy mornings.
